Baby J's 60 Minutes Of Fame

Much to my joy yesterday I spent 2 hours at Maternal Fetal Medicine at UVRMC trying to get some special testing done on this little munchkin. 60 minutes of that time was actually spent laying on a table with my belly hanging out while people (as in more than one) poked at my stomach with the ultrasound wand trying to look at Baby J's brain. Why you ask did I have to do this?

We had a regular appointment with my Dr. on Monday the 31st, where they did yet another ultrasound (I have had one every single Dr's appointment so far) to check Baby J's mouth, lips, heart and brain. At my 20 week appointment he would NOT cooperate with the ultrasound tech so they decided to take a peek again at my 24 week appointment. They found that his heart, lips were perfect. His left brain ventricle measured 11 mm & normal is anywhere under 10 mm. The Dr. wasn't very concerned about it, but wanted me to go have a specialist check it just in case. Luckily for me, UVRMC could get me in the next afternoon (YAY!) to check.

When I arrived at UVRMC, it was all pretty normal. The girl who did the 1st try (yes I said 1st try) was VERY nice, as I'm sure I drove her absolutely crazy asking questions about what I was seeing. I'm one of those obnoxious parents who wants to understand what's going on & I'm not afraid to ask. Any how, She was very patient with me and got some pretty amazing pictures of Baby J's profile, his boy junk (I could never see it before so I was going off what they told me), and his looooong legs. She did a measurement & found him to be about 1 lb 11 oz at the time, which is big for me only being 24 weeks. According to my newest "baby info bible" he should be about 1 lb 4 oz. I think he's going to be huge like his dad. YIKES!

This lovely girl spent 30 minutes trying to see the left side of Baby J's brain, trying every way she could to get in there (including having me move around, fat belly flopping all over the place) and he absolutely REFUSED to move so we could see. I even spent a good 10 minutes poking at him trying to get him to turn his head. Apparently it was nap time. So the girl went and got the Specialist Dr. himself to see if he could see the left part of Baby J's brain. This Dr. wasn't very "friendly" with the wand. I swear he bruised my insides by pushing it around. Yet again, 30 more minutes of watching the images on the monitor, but no left side of the brain. Baby J did get mad at the Dr. for poking to hard and kicked the wand, which startled the Dr. That was pretty funny. Apparently Baby J is just like his mommy and gets VERY grumpy when you interrupt his precious sleeping time. At the very end, the Dr. finally got a look at that stubborn left ventricle & found absolutely NO problems with it what-so-ever. HIP HIP HOORAY! Baby J is very healthy (AND HUGE) with perfect everything.

YAY FOR BABY J!
