4 lbs Was Just A Glimmer In My Eye

As most everyone knows, I had another ultrasound today to check on Baby J's size. He's been measuring big the last, oh 7 months or so, so the Dr. wanted to check & see exactly how big he is. According to the baby book (and my Dr, and the ultrasound chick) he should be about 4 lbs this week. 33 weeks and 4 lbs sounded good to me. I can handle that. Yeah, here's where my bubble bursts.

So I get to the Dr & go in for my ultrasound. The girl who did it asked if we were just checking size. "Yep!" I say. "Dr. Young wanted to check because 5-6 weeks ago he was measuring 5 days bigger." So we get going with the wand, etc... the first picture she comes to is his head. This is what I hear, "You said he was measuring 5 days early a little bit ago? This shows his head is measuring 5 WEEKS early." WTH?! 5 WEEKS?! I know when this kid was made because I was there. It was NOT 5 weeks earlier than what my due date says it is. 5 weeks.. holy.. And she keeps on going.

She starts measuring all of his legs, arms, belly, etc. Then she springs the news on me. "Your baby is measuring about 6 lbs.. 5 lbs 14 oz to be exact. All in all, he is measuring about 3 weeks early." Dead silence on my part. 6 LBS?! Seriously?? I was thinking my guess of 5 lbs would be a little high.

 Then she got me a picture of his face. He has very chubby cheeks already. So so cute. I wish I could scan it on here. I may try later.

Did I mention this happened before my Dr appt? Yeah. After that, I go out & the nurse tells me the Dr had just left for a delivery. Of Course. At least it gives me time to explode & ramble off to several people. So I run & grab a quick bite to eat before my appt. I called my dad to see if he knew where my mom was (she wasn't answering the phone & her cell was off and I NEEDED MY MOMMY!) and told him about how big Baby J is. He asked if the 4 lbs was for "normal" people. I said it was average. He then told me I wasn't average. BOO. Who says average isn't 6'1''?

Anyway.. blah blah blah.. I finally get in for my appt. The nurse took my blood pressure & told me it was high again. Well duh, I just found out I was going to give birth to the worlds largest baby. Wouldn't your BP be high too? Blah blah blah some more. Then Dr. Young finally comes in. We chit chat a little about my kankles & about how they were spilling over the sides of my shoes after work last Thursday. Then he says "Ok let's see how big this baby is." I mumbled "He's a giant" and Dr Young kinda looked at me with his eyes half closed look. When he looked back down and saw the 5 lbs 14 oz, he was like "Oh wow, he really is big." Yeah. No wonder I'm measuring big...  and it's not just because I'm fat. The Dr calculated out that if Baby J only gains a minimum about of weight each week for the next 7 weeks, then he will at LEAST be 9 1/2 lbs. At Least.

Needless to say he spent the remainder of the time talking to me about C-sections & how I might have to have one if my body isn't able to give birth to this giant child. C-section? Lindsay gave birth to a 10 lb baby.. I can too.. as long as I'm pumped full of drugs first. Dr said he would enduce me a week early at this point. May 17th, here I come.

However, Baby J & I will be having daily chats about how he doesn't need to be an over achiever and gain a ton of weight in the next 6 weeks left before delivery. We will also be talking about how I am going to go into "natural" labor on May 7th after my baby shower & how he will be born on May 8th. Yeah. Good luck Jamie.
